Hi, Welcome to the Twitch Dry Needling Video Training Series, where I’ll show you a fantastic dry needling technique followed by a manual therapy technique to get great results for your patients every time.

Now, when was the last time you had a patient come in and they’ve told you they’ve got some ear pain? Very common. They don’t come in and complain of ear pain necessarily but they’ve come in with a problem around their neck or their shoulders and sub-occipital headaches and so on. But they’ve also got this ear pain. Now, an important referral source to the ear is the trigger point in the masseter. Trigger points in masseter can often refer pain to the ear. The auriculo-temporal area, the temporal area, anything around here have a look at masseter and of course temporalis as well. Important to remember that masseter trigger points also refer into the teeth as well. So important referral source for dental pain as well. We’re going to have a look at masseter dry needling to the masseter right now. Really good muscle, to needle just open your mouth for me. There you go. Very responsive muscle in terms of needling.

Okay, now let’s have a look at that.

Excellent, all right. Good, okay, now we’ve needled that, what follow-up technique, manual therapy technique can we do for the masseter? Well this is a beautiful technique just here. Just into the neck of the mandible, hold back and then we just opening the mouth for me. There we go. And then we’re just stretching out that masseter. A really nice follow-up technique after you’ve done some dry needling to the masseter. Heel of the hand right on the angle, there we go.

All right, that’s going to be great with anyone for ear pain that’s arising from trigger points in the masseter.

Hope that helps.
